A Man, A Plan, A Canal, Panama

This post has nothing to do with Palindromes, as fun as they are. The “A Plan” bit is all this post is really interested in, as it is laying out my game plan for posting here. When I first jumped into starting this blog, I did not set any goals for myself, or give my blog a ton of direction (despite the wise advice of a friend to the contrary). My goal for this particular post is to remedy this situation and give my readers a chance to see where I am going with this blog. View full article »

Submission: An Explanation

In my post on Theology and Submissive Women, I realized that I did not entirely define submission. I said what it was not,  but never what it is. So, in this post I will attempt to define what I mean by submission and where I see it playing out, not only in the lives of women, but in the daily living of the Christian. This is a follow-up to my last post which details the beginning of my journey in understanding the issue of women in the church. My task in this post is to draw out what I think the role of women in the church is (with their submission to husbands in mind).

What follows is the first of what I am anticipating to be a several part series on the topic of the place of women  in the world, based on the Biblical Account.  This has been an interesting week, as I helped my Dad research 1 Timothy 2:9-15, a passage infamous for rankling feminists and the modern sensibility of the equality of women in general, due to its imperative from Paul, “I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.”  Currently, the men of Dad’s Bible Study are working through this passage and Dad wanted to rely upon my “expertise” to study this area. A New Adventure

Beginning a new thing comes with many emotions and for me, beginning a blog comes with a wide torrent of them. Fear: what will people think of my thoughts?  Do I want to be this open? Excitement: I have a public forum to share my thoughts! I want to share my thought projects and what I am learning! Trepidation: Ought I have started this endeavour? Etc. I chose to put aside the negative things and to take the plunge. It will be a learning experience for me and a challenge which I relish.

This blog is meant to be a place for me to post my thoughts about life, to keep my writing skills sharp, to discipline myself to the task of continuing to learn and to write consistently, to learn to write publicly, and to share what I am learning. I hope that as people walk alongside me in this journey that they will learn and grow from me and that they will choose to interact with me so that I may learn from them and thereby grow myself.

So, here’s to a new endevour for all to grow by. Cheers.
